Revitalization

Grunley was the prime contractor to stabilize and revitalize this National Historic Landmark's exterior envelope and prepare the structure for future phases of renovation. Our scope included full replacement of the existing metal and slate roofs; repair, reinforcement, and partial replacement of the iron roof structure; installation of new steel, masonry and concrete structural elements; replacement of the windows; masonry and ornamental metals restoration; gutter snow melt and lightning protection systems; installation of new storm pipe tie-ins and partial replacement of wet-pipe sprinkler system. This project received three Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Awards, two of which are STAR Awards for Technical Excellence. Also, the project received a 2013 Washington Contractor Award for Renovation / Restoration from the Associated General Contractors of Metropolitan Washington.
