Renovation and New Addition

Grunley served as the prime contractor for the complete phased renovation of the existing main Student Union building (282,000 square feet), the center of campus life at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) campus. Work included the upgrade of building systems, construction of a 30,000 square foot addition to house new mechanical systems, a new loading dock, new restaurants, lounge areas, a food court and seating area, a catering kitchen, pottery studio and a two-level bookstore. We also renovated Hoff’s theatre, meeting rooms, offices, a coffee bar, convenience store as well as reconfigured common space. Exterior upgrades included ADA improvements, site paving, retaining walls and landscaping. All work was performed while the facility remained open and fully operational for students and faculty.
