FDR D-Day Prayer Wall Dedication Ceremony

On Tuesday, June 6th, Grunley was honored to attend the dedication ceremony of our Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) D-Day Prayer Wall project located at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. Planned by the Friends of the National World War II Memorial in observation of D-Day’s 79th anniversary, the program included remarks from Elliott “Toby” Roosevelt III, grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt; Senator Robert Portman (R-OH); Jeff Reinbold, National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent; and Jane Droppa, Chair of the Friends of the National World War II Memorial. The program also included a special “Parade of Heroes” where WWII veterans were honored; and a Presentation of Wreaths where the 400,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war were remembered.

The new FDR D-Day Prayer Wall is positioned to the north of the existing WWII Memorial. It features the bronze prayer plaque inscribed with President Roosevelt’s prayer shared via radio on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), a center medallion comprised of granite and bronze; and three granite bands with a center band providing a bench for seating.
