Grunley Participates in National Defense University Building 59 Renovations Project Groundbreaking

On Monday morning, December 12th, Grunley was pleased to participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking of our recent project win for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District’s National Defense University Building 59 Renovations project at Fort McNair, Washington, DC! After special remarks from Brigadier General Joy L. Curriera, holes were punched in the building’s walls with sledgehammers to signal the start of this highly anticipated renovation. After the ceremony, a reception was held across the campus in the west wing of the National War College, renamed Powell Hall after General Colin Powell who once studied at the college.

This project is focused on renovations and alterations to Building 59 Eisenhower Hall, which was constructed in 1960 as an academic building. In recent years, the building had suffered from interior moisture problems, forcing the Army to empty the building in 2019. The current project seeks to provide renovations to facilitate re-opening. The project scope includes improvements and repairs to the exterior envelope as well as numerous mechanical upgrades to provide positive pressure and reduce ambient moisture. When complete, the four-story, 130,000 SF building will continue to provide educational and administrative space for nearly 450 people.
